A beautiful Goyard courrier trunk dating from the 1910s, covered in the Maison’s iconic chevron-patterned Goyardine canvas and reinforced with sturdy lozine borders.
On each side appear the painted initials of the original owner — a hallmark of early 20th-century travel culture. At the time, these markings were essential for hotel porters, railway staff, and ship crews to quickly identify a traveler’s luggage among the hundreds of trunks circulating on great voyages.
The trunk also bears original labels from the White Star Line, the legendary British shipping company tragically linked to the Titanic disaster in 1912.
These historical traces firmly anchor the piece in the early 20th century and attest to its use during the great transatlantic crossings — an era when travel itself was considered an art form reserved for a privileged few.
The trunk is fitted with two leather side handles, carefully restored in keeping with the original design, and three brass locks stamped “Goyard.”
The interior, restored with great precision, retains its original wooden frame, designed to compartmentalize the traveler’s belongings and keep garments perfectly organized during transport.
The Goyard stamp remains visible on the reinforcement buckle loops, a testament to the authenticity and meticulous craftsmanship of the Maison.
Compared to Louis Vuitton, Goyard’s production was far more confidential, with each piece handcrafted in very limited quantities. This rarity makes early trunks like this one especially valuable today, particularly when preserved in such beautiful condition over a century later.
In very good overall condition, this trunk displays a harmonious patina on the Goyardine canvas, perfectly preserved lozine borders, and an elegant presentation throughout.
The interior, restored according to traditional methods, faithfully reproduces the original finishes and can safely store clothing and personal items without any odor.
Thanks to its ideal proportions, this trunk makes an outstanding decorative piece, equally suitable as a coffee table or storage chest, while retaining all the historical charm and refined spirit of the Goyard Maison.
