Magnificent Louis Vuitton shirt trunk dating from the 1890s, specially commissioned for transporting men’s shirts at the end of the 19th century.
Its exterior is covered in the historical Damier canvas, used between 1888 and 1896 — the elegant checkered pattern that immediately preceded the creation of the famous LV Monogram in 1896. This early motif remains one of the Maison’s most iconic and sought-after designs among collectors today.
This trunk also exemplifies the highest level of craftsmanship of its time: the borders are entirely clad in leather, while all the fittings — locks, corners, and reinforcements — are made of solid brass.
It retains its original top leather handle, stamped “Louis Vuitton,” as well as the painted initials of its first owner on both sides. The zinc-lined bottom, designed to protect the contents from humidity, is an uncommon and refined detail for a trunk of this format.
Inside, the trunk is beautifully preserved, fully lined in cotton canvas with quilted padding in excellent condition. A stunning original Louis Vuitton label remains intact, displaying the Maison’s early historical addresses and the original serial number.
Overall in very good condition: this authentic trunk retains all its original components. Its narrow and elongated proportions, originally designed for shirt storage, give it a particularly elegant silhouette — highly prized today by discerning collectors.
