Louis Vuitton Cabin Trunk, circa 1910

Elegant Louis Vuitton cabin trunk, made around 1910 and covered with the iconic stenciled canvas — one of the Maison’s most recognizable designs from the early 20th century. It features the luxury leather trim and brass hardware, with three Louis Vuitton Paris locks and two original side handles in excellent condition.
Each side bears a red painted cross with the name “TIERS”, a personalized marking typical of bespoke orders of the period. A similar, larger trunk was sold at Christie’s London, displaying hotel labels from the Grand Hôtel du Lac de Côme, the Martinez in Cannes, and other prestigious destinations across the south of France and northern Italy.
The interior is lined with cotton canvas, featuring a padded lid and the original Louis Vuitton label, listing the historic rue Scribe store in Paris, closed in 1912.

These trunks disappeared from Louis Vuitton or Goyard sales catalogs when the airplane supplanted the liners in the immediate post-war period. For lack of traveling today with these cabin trunks, their format is ideal to make a coffee table. Often protected by a glass, it is the assurance of having an unusual table, full of history and symbol of an art of living at the beginning of the 20th century.
