Charming small Louis Vuitton hat box, designed for the gentleman’s wardrobe and emblematic of the early 20th century.
It is covered in the stenciled “L. Vuitton” canvas, used before the creation of the iconic monogram, and finished with elegant black lozine borders.
A leather handle is fitted on the top for easy handling, while the painted initials of the original owner appear on the sides — a typical mark of distinction at the time, allowing a traveler’s staff to quickly recognize their master’s luggage among the many trunks on station platforms or steamship decks.

An intriguing detail lies on the lid: traces of old wax seals, likely applied by a particularly meticulous traveler, either for security or perhaps to protect sensitive documents.
It is possible that this discreet “hat box” once served not for a hat at all, but for the transport of important papers or personal effects, a practice reserved for individuals of status or discretion.

Inside, the box is lined with thick cotton canvas and retains its original leather strap for securing the hat.
