Baggage Collection x MAXFIELD

Maxfield Los Angeles

An Exceptional Collaboration

For the first time, Bagage Collection crosses the Atlantic and brings its trunks to Los Angeles, at the iconic Maxfield concept store on Melrose Avenue. A legendary destination for fashion and design enthusiasts, carefully chosen to host this exceptional event, which will take place in a stunning Jean Prouvé house from November 14 to December 31.

The exhibition will unfold across three spaces: a pop-up shop featuring pieces for sale, a historical area highlighting trunks of rare provenance, and a live workshop showcasing the house’s artisanal craftsmanship. To mark this American debut, around thirty Louis Vuitton trunks will be displayed, tracing the history of travel and elegance through time.

On November 14 at 6 PM, an invitation-only opening cocktail will inaugurate the exhibition. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover trunks that belonged to prominent American figures, as well as iconic pieces from the Maxfield collection, such as Giacometti chairs or a Jean Prouvé table. Julie Martin, daughter of founders Sandrine and David Martin, will be present to share the family story and the passion that has driven Bagage Collection since its beginnings.

An Iconic American Story

Founded in 1969 by Tommy Perse, Maxfield is much more than a store: it is a major cultural institution in Los Angeles, a legendary address where fashion, design, and contemporary art have intersected for over half a century. Located at 8825 Melrose Avenue, in a brutalist building with a monolithic façade, the space commands attention with its sculptural, silent presence. Inside, expansive raw concrete volumes and soft lighting create an almost museum-like atmosphere, where every garment, piece of furniture, or object is displayed as a work of art.

A visionary, Tommy Perse was among the first to introduce the spirit of Japanese designers such as Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto to California, while also showcasing radical figures like Rick Owens. Maxfield also played a key role in introducing Armani to the United States, long before the brand became a global symbol of luxury. The store goes beyond retail: it curates taste, intentionally blurring the lines between gallery, atelier, and concept store. In this space, a rare perfume can sit alongside a contemporary sculpture, a Jean Prouvé chair, or an archival Chanel piece.

Over the decades, Maxfield has become a pilgrimage site for aesthetes and collectors from around the world, a cutting-edge landmark visited as much for inspiration as for shopping. Its clientele includes artists, designers, musicians, and filmmakers, drawn to this holistic vision of luxury — simultaneously raw, intellectual, and sensual. Staying true to Tommy Perse’s spirit, the boutique continues to embody a distinct idea of Californian elegance, combining architectural boldness, aesthetic rigor, and creative freedom.
